Yes, you read the above title correctly. Oren J. aka Silver Medallion has taken Nicki Minaj's "Starships" and done a cover that is certainly capable of holding its' own. Though I still lament the passing of former member MC Carnegie, Oren has put out a solid number of tracks that consistently grace my speakers. Hearing this "Starship" cover makes me believe that this consistency will continue to occur. With a beat produced by the amazing Chi Duly, he of the Balloons of Haus project, Oren puts his own take on the track. Silver Medallion's raspier vocals seem to give the track a more raw vibe that easily differentiates itself from the pop-goodness of Nicki Minaj's original. Even with this raw vocal quality, there still remains a playful fun vibe that would be great for times at the beach or pool (as witnessed by the accompanying music video). So take a couple of listens to the cover and hopefully if you're a fan of Silver Medallion, it will hold you over until his appearance at the Glow Stick for Breakfast Tour that begins on April 18th.
