It's no secret that I have a soft spot for hard, heavy beats (nothing touches your heart and gets you feeling sentimental like angry blender sounds — but really, they bring back some good memories). Benga's been rocking the hard, heavy stuff well lately, as we saw in his tracks on Scion's recent free EP with Benga and BFF Skream.
Now, he's taken a similar style and applied it to a remix of A-Trak and Zinc's upcoming breakbeat track "Stingray" (out on Fool's Gold tomorrow), and boy do these stings hurt so good. Skream and Benga's stuff was never exactly light, but I'm continually impressed by their ability to adapt to the evolving dubstep scene (American, British, or elsewhere) without the elitism that's present in some circles (while still hanging onto their roots). Instead of focusing on genre and classification, let's focus on what this music is really for: letting off steam and having a fun time.
