Known as the first rap group to be signed to Sub Pop Records, Seattle-based Shabazz Palaces is raising the bar with their dark hip-hip experimental sound with the release of their brilliant Black Up EP. In an exclusive live performance for The Guardian as part of its "How I wrote…" series, frontman Palaceer Lazaro told the story behind the creation of the group's new dream-inspired single "Bronny on a Breakaway".
Lazaro stated:
"The way this song came about was, I had a dream that I woke up. When I woke up, I had an idea for a song. I called Tendai to share with him, but he didn't pick up the phone, and his answering machine came on, and his outgoing message had music, and the music sounded like this…"
