Brandun DeShay – Volume Three: To Get Ready! [Mixtape]

Last week, our man in the Chi, Brandun DeShay dropped his long awaited mixtape, Volume Three: To Get Ready!. The most interesting thing to watch for when it comes to Brandun and his musical peers is seeing the growth in musical direction, sound, etc. Sonically, and conceptually this is DeShay's most solid piece of work to date, from the opening dialogue in "Good Morning (Ceven)" to the final track "They Know". Probably more known for his excellent production more so than his lyrics, DeShay sometimes takes a back seat to the synths and mixing boards to showcase his poetics, such as in songs like "Veteran's Day" and "Orjazzmic". And don't believe the hype about featured MC's outshining the producer lyrically on his own album. While that maybe the scenario in most cases, he makes sure that he goes just as hard on his verses as he does with his production.

Those who have been following DeShay for a while may find the more personal subjects he speaks on a little stale; an ambitious young adult who loves his music, his girls and his grind. But, observing from the outside, it isn't hard to tell that this is his reality. With a diverse selection of beats, sentimental lyricism and ill features that include DOM KENNEDY and Von Pea of Tanya Morgan, this is definitely a mixtape that you want to add to your collection.
