Tiesto & Allure – "Pair of Dice"

Since 1998, Tiesto has been producing tracks under the pseudonym Allure. But since the Dutch legend abandoned the moniker in 2011, he's handed over head production responsibilities to the rest of the team behind the project. Since then, Allure has had continued success in the world of vocal trance.

This week, "Pair of Dice" was released as a collaboration by the project and its founder, this time in the progressive house genre. As a clear follow up to Club Life Vol. 2 which could be deemed as the album of the summer and remains at the top of the Beatport charts, "Pair of Dice" is uplifting and fun. It lingers on some of the sounds of the album's success, specifically the track that Tiesto is famous for opening his sets with, "Chasing Summers." Both released on Musical Freedom, Tiesto's record label that is aligned with the mainstream and his truest fans. Although it's less exciting to see such a huge name stand on its own (without the veiled anonymity), Tiesto continues to expand his brand by letting others take the reigns of his projects.

"Pair of Dice" uses the same techniques that makes Tiesto the benchmark for having a long, successful career: melodies that sound simple, but involve anything but simple composition. While incomparable to the tracklist on Club Life Vol. 2, the track is still a great standalone release. Like many of Tiesto's productions, we are actually able to hear the progression slowly build into itself. In "Pair of Dice," that means a lead with an acidic intro, with underlying synths added slowly so we're able to witness chords come together into one melody.
