It's about time: the ever inventive electronic producer Mat Zo will launch his own record label come Monday, August 11th. After his hugely successful Damage Control artist album, Zo will launch the ever clever label Mad Zoo come Monday with his own EP release: Mad Zoo 001 – The Up Down Left Right EP. And here's the kicker: every record on the label will be available to download for free via Soundcloud in its first week of release. This initial EP will feature the disco tune he collaborated on with The Knocks earlier this summer, as well as a new breaks track entitled "Left to Right." From Zo himself:
"I've always wanted a quicker outlet for my music, so awhile ago I decided to release some of my music for free on Soundcloud. The only problem with this is if I want to license the track out, or even put the track on YouTube, there has to be a label structure around it. The plans for Mad Zoo had been underway for years, so I decided to use the venture as a new way for me to release music quickly, yet still have infrastructure around it. I will still continue to work with other labels in the conventional way."
In the ever more competitive realm of dance music, Zo seems to be in touch with his fans, including the lot we can expect from Mad Zoo.
