The Australian trio daste, who debuted last summer, has quickly found their niche in dreamy retro-funk productions that feature silky-smooth toplines. Premiering today with EARMILK, their third track entitled "Myself" has an infectious bounce, bubbling synths, and mesmerizing percussion elements that fall into a subtly empowering vocal. Hit play below:
The track exudes a laid back appeal by keeping the arrangement simple, but still manages to deliver bursts of energy through each snare and hi-hat.
“We started working on 'Myself' late last year, experimenting on old drum machines and soft synths, as we continue to find new ways to approach our songwriting. Once the foundation of the track was built, we started to lean upon our recent influences, combining wah pedals and vocoders to create a zesty soundscape.” -daste.
Other tunes like "Sober" and "Thinkin' Of" help bring together the color palette of daste, which can be measured in instrumental elements and writing styles that are found within each track. The Palette EP releases in May 2019.
"Myself" is available everywhere via Mammal Sounds Records.
