Irish-Maylasian artist and ESEA music member Yunè Pinku has released her third EP Scarlet Lamb.

At less than 22 minutes long and featuring just six tracks, Scarlet Lamb is a perfect example of Yunè Pinku’s garage and dance sensibilities and her ethereal vocals, matched with introspective, bittersweet lyrics.

Opening up with “Midnight Oil,” the first track conjures a distinctly Zedd-esque mood with its rhythmic bass and pulsing synth – especially during the bridge – as Yunè Pinku wonders ‘Who shook the love from me? / where is my bravery?’

Moving onto “Reckless Sensation,” the second track features much more of a trip-hop vibe with its reverberating, midtempo snares and gentle vocals. On this track, Yunè Pinku sings ‘love is relation / I can feel its sensation / wearing down on me’ in an unsure, searching tone.

Third up is “Don’t Stop,” which switches up the vibe hugely from the first two tracks with its deep, dirty synth and industrial flourishes, matched with warbling guitar throughout in a manner reminiscent of Madeon’s early work.

The fourth track is “Half Alive,” which opens up with a very classic UK garage beat before introducing some bright keyboards. The entire tone of the song belies the once again melancholy lyrics, such as ‘it’s hard / to find / when you’re / half alive’. Perfectly danceable, but maybe more of tired post-work shuffle than a full-on rave.

The penultimate track is “Concorde”, which abandons the drum effects until the halfway mark. In contrast to the other tracks on the EP, “Concorde” is darker and more melodic even as the lyrics take a slightly more hopeful turn: ‘you / it’s you I’ll hold onto / you / it’s you who keeps me true’.

Finishing up the EP is the sixth track “Believe”. Like the previous track, this one has a more hopeful tinge as Yunè Pinku sings “with you I believe / with you I believe”. On this track the vocals particularly shine, shunning the deliberate quietness the opening tracks employ.

Overall, Yunè Pinku’s Scarlet Lamb is six tracks of gentle loveliness that deserves repeat listens, and is a perfect soundtrack as autumn grows darker.
