Settle in to trap rock in Elk Road's edit of "Reverse" by SomeKindaWonderful [Download]

Towards the end of the year, artists begin to recap their performances and try to sum them up the best way possible for the audience to digest. Another common thing to see around the holidays are compilations released for free, hoping to induce nostalgia in the people who got them where they are. After sitting in the top 20 chart for alternative radio for 16 weeks, SomeKindaWonderful has done just that with a remix pack of their track "Reverse".

Today I share with you the final remix on the compilation from Australian producer Elk Road. He's the last of a stunning list of beat-mashers including Passion Pit, Oliver Nelson, Mansions on the Moon, Steve James, Tomas Barfod, and Sicarii. “I don’t think anyone’s ever written a song backwards before,” lead singer of SomeKindaWonderful, Jordy Towers, explains about writing “Reverse.” “It was the first song we wrote together as a band, the night we met; that was the song we wrote and we didn’t even know each other." I don't know if they knew it then (presumably not) but these guys topped charts all of 2014 and now they have a gang of quality musicians playing with their sound.

Elk Road's version of "Reverse" is almost self-explanatory upon the first note. It's a subtle yet striking trap-rock remix, with a ton of emphasis on instrumentation and less on digital. I really dig how the arrangement mirrors that of something you'd hear in the trap section, but sounds like it came right out of the original band's amps. That is, until you hear the infectious synth on the beat break.

Take a listen to this final edit of "Reverse" below, grab the download, and check out the wildly popular SomeKindaWonderful album here via Downtown Records.
