The Woods roars to experimental life in latest single "Night Silk Threads"

Every once in a while, there comes along a song so perfectly immersed in intricately sonic soundscapes, that it's impossible to separate the artist from the song. Every element, every note is meticulously chosen for the perfect emulation of that artist's mind. Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist The Woods (Johnny McFadzean) composed such a song called "Night Silk Threads," and it's premiering here today.

"Night Silk Threads" is the lead track off his similarly titled sophomore EP, out May 17. Deeply ingrained in divine revelations, McFadzean explains the track is "about the interconnectedness of late night city dwellers. The fleeting connections and tensions of crossed paths, intertwining encounters and hidden stories. Each of us in a different state of limbo and consciousness."

These elements of a spiritual dichotomy are openly mirrored in the song's production, with a haphazard percussive beat keeping in time with a smooth humming bass. The perceived discordance effectively heightens McFadzean's vocal presence, emboldening every hook and tender harmony. It's an atmospheric execution akin to James Blake and Alt-J. McFadzean's upcoming EP will be the first that he produced himself, adding one more accomplishment to his illustrious career. Boasting of a childhood filled with world tours and performances as a prodigious singing talent in a world-famous choir, McFadzean stayed true to his love for classical music. Using it as fodder for exploring jazz and electronica, his eventual project The Woods continues to emanate the innocently deep passion for music and the stories it tells.

You can catch The Woods live at these select U.K shows this summer:

June 7th- Treyarnon Bay, Cornwall- Sunset Sessions
June 12th- Dalston, London- The Victoria
June 16th- Highgate Festival, London- The Boogaloo
July 5th- Inverness, Scotland- Xpo North Festival
