Mystical, haunting, and ethereal, Morgara's debut single "Desire" draws listeners in and refuses to let go. The track opens with deep piano chords and finger-picked acoustic guitar, and a single kick bass holds the track steady as Morgara’s warm, inviting vocals emerge.
“Lighting all the bridges I built up just to burn / Playing the martyr like I chose to be wronged / A wounded wing on the mend / Now it’s for the fire I yearn.”
Morgara’s music is described as a stunning blend of “alternative folk, dream pop, and neo-medieval sound worlds.”
The music feels both ancient and otherworldly, all at once. Her curation of ethereal melodies, a soaring vocal range, and haunting harmonies are reminiscent of Florence + the Machine. Her vocal skill makes her melodic ornamentation sound effortless and allows the listener to melt into the richness of the track.
“Truth is I knew it were no good from the start / Taking a lighter to the strings of my heart / I like to set it on fire / Tell me how to keep from getting burned.”
Mystical lyricism is mixed with a dark romantic feel, all while accompanied by an ever-growing texture of instrumentation. The lilting vocal melody is paired with stacked vocal harmonies, strummed acoustic guitar, lovely string accompaniment, graceful piano, and the emergence of gentle percussion.
“Rust, bone and dirt / I’m praying for the rain to wash away the hurt.”
A momentary instrumental break leads to gorgeous harmonies and stunning vocal runs from Morgara. All of the elements swell and engulf the listener in a pool of sound. Just as sure as a wave ebbs and flows, the track begins to retreat, as if pulling away. The last line is left in the balance as piano and percussion accompany the final lyrics.
“Desire / It warms the same skin that it burns / The heart never learns.”
As the listener yearns for more, they can find relief knowing Morgara’s next single, “No Use,” releases on July 3rd.
