Sky Blue Sound continue their return with a renewed sense of urgency and focus, following the release of their cover of Richard Thompson’s “I Feel So Good.”
Arriving after a year-long pause from public activity, the track marks the project’s first new statement since 2024 and reintroduces their work with a sharper, more immediate sonic edge.
Originally written by Thompson, “I Feel So Good” is reinterpreted here as a raw, high-energy performance that leans into punk intensity while retaining the song’s core sense of release and forward motion.
Rather than treating the piece as a faithful cover, Sky Blue Sound reshape it into something more physical and unrestrained — a version driven by momentum, distortion, and emotional directness.
The recording was entirely handled by Mauricio Carey, who oversaw arrangement, production, mixing, mastering, and performed drums. His approach anchors the track in a tightly controlled yet energetic foundation. Marshall Coates contributes guitar and bass work that cuts through the mix with jagged precision and propulsion, adding both texture and drive. Vocally, Phair Isles (Rachel Carey) delivers a commanding lead performance that pushes the track into a more confrontational emotional register.
Taken as a whole, the release reflects a broader reset for the project.
After a period of silence following “Monuments In Dust,” Sky Blue Sound’s previous 2024 release, this new version signals a shift in tone — less reflective stillness, more forward motion, and release.
The band frames the song as a reminder that feeling good can itself become a form of resistance, especially in moments of uncertainty or creative stagnation.
The return also hints at momentum building. With a new original composition expected next week, Sky Blue Sound appear to be entering a renewed phase of output following their hiatus, moving from absence back into active release mode.
Rather than a reinvention, this moment reads as re-entry — a continuation of their sound, but with sharpened intent and renewed energy.
