BMT reimagines BTS’s “Swim” into a soulful Nashville anthem [Video]

Genre boundaries continue to blur in the most unexpected ways, and BMT’s latest installment of her "Countryfication" series is a prime example of how a great song can live a thousand lives. Taking on the atmospheric, R&B-leaning "Swim" made famous by BTS, BMT strips back the polished production in favor of a raw, acoustic charm that feels right at home in the heart of Tennessee.

The track's evolution is a masterclass in creative reinterpretation. While the original relies on a slick, water-like synth landscape, BMT grounds the song with rhythmic acoustic guitar and a vocal delivery rich with Southern grit. She handles the verses with ease, infusing the rap-influenced cadence with a melodic twang that highlights the universal songwriting. BMT's vocal performance is particularly striking during the bridge, where she leans into the vulnerability of the lyrics, delivering the lines, "Tell me where the hell you at girl / Oh you ain't even got to love me back girl," with a poignant honesty. Visually, the cover leans into the aesthetic switch with effortless style. Dressed in a classic black cowboy hat and a bold red top, BMT bridges the gap between K-pop’s vibrant visual language and country’s timeless imagery. It’s a bold, genre-defying flip that is a sign of what's to come in The Countryfication Cover Vol. 1.

Tennessee born, Indiana-bred artist on the rise BMT (Briana Marie Turner) is carving out her own lane where rockabilly meets infectious soul and pop sensibilities, all driven home by her undeniably distinct vocals. Watch BMT's rootsy rendition on the BTS hit "Swim" here and find the folk heart in global pop!
