Light Year – Moderation [EP + Video]

Not a year goes by without Light Year leaving their mark with another timeless original. A Sydney duo patted for its savv in churning out cult classics, fame was there right from the start as the track "Sex Education" made rounds across the world gracing the decks of renowned taste makers Tiga, 2manyDJs, and Erol Alkan to name a few. Not bad for their first EP which later became a monumental release for Australian record label Bang Gang. Months later the two continued to ride their knack of fleshing out basement gold with "5 Girls", a track that rose above the hype and met with a demeanor of consistency. The EP gave way to noteworthy remixes by Strip Steve and Harvard Bass and also opened the duo up to cameo appearances in remix packages for esteemed artists like ZZT and Surkin.

Since then the boys have split, but not that there's any bad blood. One half went off to birth a more avant garde ego called Jensen Interceptor, while the other kept on to carry the same acclaimed name. Moderation is the first piece of work from the now solo Light Year, and it is arguably the names best work yet. The title track is a mash of nostalgic disco basslines that revel in the depths of R&B blues. Along the lines of the Danny Daze chart topper "Your Everything" without mentioning the climactic throwback to 90s acid house that jacks the track on an entirely different scale. The B-side "Reversion" plays out like a redux going even deeper into the after hours limelight with lines of 303 confessions and opaque techno percussion. All in all it turns out to be a small EP for Light Year, but one that indulges in the craving for pain and satisfaction of jealous house lovers and 4am droogs alike.
