RENESIS on "Overdrive," pushing her sound further and the future of cyberpunk

RENESIS is an engineer of opportunity. The LA-based producer has spent the past year systematically building her corner of the cyberpunk electronic movement, one collaboration and one meticulously crafted release at a time. Her approach is deliberate: every track exists as its own world, every performance transforms into an immersive experience, and every creative decision pushes toward a larger vision she's only beginning to reveal.

Her latest release, "Overdrive," exemplifies this methodology. The collaboration with French producer Extra Terra didn't happen by chance, but rather,  emerged from years of RENESIS admiring his work, studying his production techniques, and eventually reaching out when the timing felt right. The result is a track that merges their shared cinematic sensibilities while allowing RENESIS to stake her claim in the heavier territories of electronic music. It's the kind of strategic creative move that defines her entire approach: calculated, but never calculated in a way that drains the emotion from the music.

RENESIS’s unique modus operandi is her understanding that cyberpunk is infrastructure, not decoration. She's building NEOKANTO, a creative hub designed to merge music, visuals, and storytelling into something that extends beyond digital streams and festival stages. It's ambitious in scope, the kind of project that suggests she's thinking five years ahead while most artists are focused on their next single.

A few weeks after the release of "Overdrive," we sat down with RENESIS to discuss the making of the track, her creative process, and the "pretty badass project" she's keeping under wraps for now.

"Overdrive" marks a major collaboration with Extra Terra, someone you've cited as an inspiration. Can you walk us through how this track came together?
OVERDRIVE came together very organically. Extra Terra has been someone I genuinely admired for a long time, so collaborating with him felt both exciting and a little surreal at first. From the start, we really connected creatively and shared a similar vision for the track. We both come from a cinematic, immersive, high-energy sound, so working together felt very natural. Seeing how well people have connected with OVERDRIVE has been incredibly rewarding.
You mentioned you both had to push each other throughout production. Was there a specific moment where you really had to advocate for your vision?
The second drop was probably the moment when I really had to stand behind my vision. It leaned more heavily into my sound and pushed the intensity a bit further. It was slightly outside of what Extra Terra usually does, so we took some time to talk it through and make sure it felt right for both of us. In the end, we committed to that RENESIS energy for the second drop, and I think it really paid off.
Between "SAKURA" and "OVERDRIVE" your sound is evolving in real time. How do you balance maintaining your atmospheric quality while pushing into heavier territory?
To me, SAKURA and OVERDRIVE are worlds of their own within the same universe. While I think SAKURA hits heavier, each track definitely has its own drive and emotional weight, while still being connected by the same cinematic foundation. The balance between beauty and chaos is at the core of everything I do, and that’s what gives my sound its atmospheric quality.

You've got upcoming collaborations with Rogue VHS, MAGNAVOLT, and DRAVEN. Without giving too much away, are we going to see you continue down this harder path
Definitely. Whether I'm working on collabs or on my own releases, my goal will always be to create immersive & cinematic heavy hitting tracks!
Your live shows are described as "full-blown cybernetic experiences." How do you translate the cinematic energy of tracks like "Overdrive" into a live setting?
It really comes down to the setting. In clubs, I’ll play club edits or extended versions of my tracks and adjust the cinematic sections so that the energy stays consistent. For live shows, I perform the original versions, allowing the audience to fully sink into the atmosphere and the world of the track.
Looking ahead to 2026, what does the next chapter look like for RENESIS? What's the bigger picture you're building toward?
The next chapter is about expansion and evolution. I’m continuing to push the RENESIS sound further, bringing it to more stages, exploring new collaborations, and working towards bigger milestones. There’s also a pretty badass project in the works that I can’t reveal just yet, but it’s coming!
The cyberpunk electronic movement is gaining serious momentum right now. Where do you see this sound heading, and why do you think it resonates so strongly?
I think people are starting to connect more and more with Cyberpunk music because it reflects the world we’re living in. It captures both the beauty and chaos of this modern, tech-driven world, which is why it resonates so deeply. Cyberpunk has already extended far beyond music into film, gaming, and fashion, and I see it continuing to grow into something even bigger.
That’s what inspired me to create NEOKANTO, a cyberpunk hub where music, visuals, and storytelling collide, with the long-term goal of turning it into immersive, real-world experiences.
