After a decade of anthems – and maybe a couple of chart toppers and festival appearances or two – Marshmello is kicking off a brand new chapter for his label with this first-ever artist compilation. As part of the Marshmello's 10 Years of Joytime celebration, this project is all about pushing the future of electronic music forward while also holding onto his signature energy that fans have come to love about the squishy, sugary, delicious artist!
Leading this seven-track compilation is Marshmello’s very own new single, “BASSLINE FLEXA”, which is a bass-heavy, bass-driven bass-banger – as you'd expect from Marshmello – which sets the tone perfectly with high-energy and hard-hitting nuances. The rest of the EP is packed with fresh rising names – that Marshmello personally handpicked: there is Lunnari with “EASY TO LEAVE” and EARMILK favourite, KILLMATTER with “BALENCIAGA BARBIE,” both of which dropped ahead of this release.
Other hard-hitting standout tracks from the EP include new upstarts like Ailow’s highly intoxicating and appropriately titled “high,” DIMEPIECE’s late-night inspired “Night Shift,” Holmesick’s sentimental, heart-hitting track “ONLYFORYOU.,” 4URA’s dance-anthem “Pump It Up!,” and finally, Dr. Apollo’s intense anthem “Shutdown,” to close out the crazy ride that is this EP.
Listening to this nearly 24-minute long compilation, has made me reaslise that Marshmello and Jumpstart are trying to accomplish two things: 1) they want to pay homage to the the past ten years and 2) they want to clearly showcase fresh talent and keep things moving forward. This entire compilation proves those two aforementioned assumptions without a second thought.
