2025 is shaping up to be a colorful year for Lousie Macphail and Kristen McFadden, the duo making up indie pop Prima Queen. Not counting the 2024 deluxe version, it's been two years since the duo released their debut EP, Not the Baby. The soft-spoken pop music project helped Prima Queen establish their sound and ethereal atmosphere. Prima Queen is now ready to venture out into the world again, building upon a slew of releases with the new track, "The Prize."

With their debut album, The Prize set to drop in April, the duo is wasting no time with the rollout. 'The Prize" follows in step with previous singles, "Ugly" and "Fool." Upbeat and filled with hazy themes of sun-soaked lyricism, the track wraps listeners in a warm glow.  A little slower compared to the other singles, "The Prize" holds onto the production and guitar-stricken chords nicely.

The single speaks to help a person see the good within themselves after a failed relationship. Prima Queen sings in the chorus, "Babe, Dry your eyes / Did you forget that you're a diamond? / You're the dream, you're the peach?" The track serves as a reminder to never let anyone steal your shine.

"The Prize" title provides a perfect companion to the upcoming album of the same name. The small preview of the album heard in "The Prize" and other singles gives hope for much of what makes Prima Queen such a breath of fresh air for the ever-crowded pop genre. The duo shows, with careful storytelling and harp-sounding vocals, that music can be a gateway into untapped places.
