Fie Eike speaks about our need for belonging in “Fluid” [Video]

Copenhagen-based artist Fie Eike delves into the struggle of losing yourself in the quest to belong in her latest single “Fluid.” As we navigate through life, we often find ourselves shapeshifting in order to fit in with the people around us, even at the detriment of our own identity and sense of self. "Fluid" explores how constantly adapting to others can blur our boundaries and distance us from who we truly are.

The songwriter shares, “Being flexible and able to adapt can be a positive and important skill. But in the context of our need for community and belonging, it can sometimes become a weakness, if we adapt too much and lose our sense of self in order to fit in or do what we think others expect of us.”

“Fluid” is hauntingly beautiful, showcasing Fie Eike’s stunning vocal range as her words echo over rippling synths and delicate instrumentation that mimics the nature of water. As the song builds in tempo and layers of strings, the music hints at a transformation, striving for strength and optimism.

As the songwriter emphasizes our universal yearning for belonging, she simultaneously reminds us that one of the most important things in life is recognizing our own self-worth and expressing ourselves authentically. If we cannot find solace within, then we will always feel a deep need to belong to something outside of our control.

The mesmerizing “Fluid” is off of Fie Eike’s upcoming debut album, due November this year.
