The Sometimes Island are known for their introspective dance-worthy indie pop anthems, which often seem to transport listeners to a tropical destination where worries seem to wash away under the warmth of the sun, and their latest single “Neon Summer” does just that. Vibrant melodies and an uplifting, toe-tapping beat create a playful atmosphere, resulting in an usual juxtaposition to the narrative behind the song.
With the lyrics touching on the end of a summer romance, “Neon Summer” is a perfect example of how the band always seem to put a positive spin on some of life’s harshest moments. Frontman Matt Blankenship Jr. shares, “I hope this song inspires people to spontaneously do something summery. I hope they’re inspired to forget themselves for a second and do what makes them happy, and feel childlike.”
“Neon Summer” is the first release of the year from The Sometimes Island and follows their 2022 EP, Beverly & Barbara. Crafting the ultimate summer anthem, this trio never disappoints and we’re hoping for a lot more from them this year.
