White Girl Wasted team up with MF DOOM & Jay Electronica for the lyric driven "Barz Simpson"

White Girl Wasted is a UK hip-hop duo comprised of prolific hip-hop producer The Purist and rapper/producer Sonnyjim who are currently working on their self-titled debut album. The duo first joined forces 4 years ago after Brighton-based The Purist and Birmingham-born / London-based Sonnyjim met at Outlook Festival and hit the studio afterwards. One of the first records they made is their latest single "Barz Simpson," a moody blaxploitation-sounding track underpinned by Sonnyjim's authoritative vocals, smooth flow and off-the-wall lyrics.

Lines like "My chefs Asian I pop a quaalude and feel famous/ My side chick sniffs at the situation/ Sniff the Ronald Reagan off the invitation freemason " showcases Sonnyjim's devil may care approach and graphic writing style. The wild part is he did it in one perfect take and reached out to the late great MF DOOM and Jay Electronica to help complete the mission.

DOOM got the job done the next day and completely neuters the beat with lines like "Dope kills, stress will get you faster/ Let off in an open ocean toast to the heat blaster/ Bang bang you rang, Doom got a new thang/ Reunited like Wu-Tang, Punks pay for poontang." I must say, it's a perfect way to remember DOOM, for his wit, humour and insight. Jay Electronica closes it up with his God body-influenced style wrapped in bravado and a bit of eclectic aesthetic to boot.

The Purist has built his name as a sought-after producer on both sides of the Atlantic, having churned out beats for the likes of Freddie Gibbs, Action Bronson, CADisDEAD, Danny Brown and Loyle Carner. Similarly, Sonnyjim’s discography includes a strong lineup of collaborations such as Roc Marci, Lord Apex, Da$h and Westside Gunn.

A concise eight-track body of work, White Girl Wasted is set for release on 6th September via The Purist’s label Daupe! – a “Quality Not Quantity” imprint that has become renowned for crashing Bandcamp with every release. The rest of the project boasts features from DJ Premier, Madlib, Lee Scott and Milkaveli.
