Ellen Bryant reflects on long distance loving on "Letter to My Lover"

Ellen Bryant marks the start of Leo season with the drop of the jazzy “Letter to My Lover”. A toast to old school romance, Bryant captures her deepest sentiments, seals it in a bottle, and sends it sailing across the ocean. For the Melbourne-based artist with roots in Toronto, that metaphor holds an unexaggerated meaning.

Being homesick is an all too familiar feeling for Bryant, and “Letter to My Lover” strikes a balance between the longing of missing a loved one, but excitement to be in their presence once again. Serenading with sweet words of affection, she sings, “I could write a text, I know, but I want to romance you.” Ellen emphasizes the importance of taking the extra effort to show how much you care, especially when distance stands in the way.

Produced by K-Notes and co-written by fellow Toronto R&B artist Jayd Ink, the feel-good ditty has an optimistic feel, inspiring her lover with just enough positivity to hold them over until she returns. Spacy synths are complemented by elasticky bass for a truly nostalgic feel, reminiscent of the 90s tributes sprinkled throughout the track. With reference to “'4 Page Letter” by R&B princess Aaliyah,“Letter to My Lover” brings sentiments of old school romance to modern, long distance relationships.

For the global resident, Bryant's sightings aren’t often, but they’re always worth the wait. Along with the single, she translates the song's message literally, penning a letter to fans with the announcement of a reunion show in Toronto slated for August 24th at The Drake Underground.
