Marian Hill teams up with GASHI for the evocative “little bit”

Philly bred duo Marian Hill has returned with the new single “little bit” off of their forthcoming full length album entitled Why Can’t We Just Pretend, set for release later this Spring. The band enlisted the help of Libyan born genre-bending artist GASHI who adds further depth and musicality to the release.

“Little bit” details “seeing an ex for the first time after a long time has passed and feeling…nothing?,” confides Samantha Gongol of Marian Hill. The indifference is tangible but also confusing at the same time, with her realization that her ex is calmer and less awkward than she is in that moment. Sonically, Gongol’s echoing angelic vocals glide effortlessly into an enticing melody. The moody reverb-drenched beats contrast with her sweet vocals, further highlighting the mixed emotions in seeing a past lover. GASHI brings a surrendering tone with his laid back rhythms about giving up on the relationship.

Marian Hill began releasing music in 2013 and made their Billboard top 30 debut with the hit single “Down” in 2016. Since then, the two have released a series of singles, EPs and albums. The upcoming twelve track album Why Can’t We Just Pretend is their first full length album since 2018 with the duo promising according to the press release to “push ourselves outside our sonic comfort zone.”

GASHI spent much of his childhood as a refugee, often moving from nation to nation. His family eventually settled in Brooklyn, New York and at a young age he found solace in music. He is known for infusing trap, hip hop and pop in his music and he has collaborated with a myriad of well known artists including Dua Lipa and Sting to name a couple.
