Key Glock gives insight on "Son of A Gun", Memphis, and new music

Burgeoning Memphis rapper Key Glock has been active in the first half of 2020. After dropping Yellow Tape back in January, Key Glock follows up wth his May release Son of A Gun. With nothing but time, he took a few minutes to chop it up about Son of a Gun, his hometown, and what's in store for the rest of the year.

Produced by PRE producer Bandplay, Son of a Gun pushes Key Glock out of his comfort zone with witty and perplexing bars over a variety of instrumentals. The chemistry is undeniable between the two, with Bandplay also producing his January release, Yellow Tape. Although the two have a solid sound together, he does have a slew of producers that he's also looking forward to working with. "I work with everybody man, I got a couple of producers", he says of upcoming projects and it sounds pretty promising. With quarantine keeping everyone inside, he owes a lot of new sound on Son of A Gun to being holed up with his mom. Ironically with the violin-tinged self-titled track, it's not much of surprise where he draws much of his inspiration from.

Key Glock hails from the legendary Memphis, Tennessee, which has birthed sounds from Three Six Mafia and many more. On the gritty track "Go Get It", he gives a quick reminder of where he's from. When asked how it feels to finally be the one putting on for Memphis, his response was quite humbling. "Spotlight or not, I'll always put on for Memphis. I don't need a spotlight to be me", he expresses his loyalty to not only his hometown but himself as well.

If you haven't been following Key Glock's sound, he's known for dropping featureless projects. Last year he dropped the collab tape Dum and Dummer with fellow Memphis-native, Young Dolph. Wanting to make a name for himself with no help, he prefers to go the featureless route. Now with some good projects under his belt, Key Glock is still sticking to the script. It's not much of surprise that he kept that same energy when asked if there was anyone that he looked forward to working with.

Son of A Gun is Key Glock's second release of the year. There's no telling when the next release will be but he does plan to follow up with some more heat later this year. In the meantime, check out the booming 15-track mixtape up top.
