New Jersey dweller LOUD HOUND unmasks his true emotions in latest single “Melancholy Boy.” The jangly indie alt/pop track is singer Tommy Florio’s way of ripping off the bandaid and finally letting those wounds heal. Detailing his own fight with depression and anxiety, the upbeat, buoyant track seems drastically contrasting to the mournful narrative behind the song.
Layered vocals create a colossal, anthemic feel to the track, while the driving rhythm section and pounding drums deliver a move-inducing release. Florio’s vocals illuminate the song, emitting an essence of Cage The Elephant meets Blur.
Sharing in his press release, Florio admits, “The song is kind of like an ode to myself being a sad boy and the indecisiveness that comes with incompatible love that is blinded by infatuation.” We’ve all been there – catching feelings for someone we probably shouldn’t, enjoying the fantasy of it but knowing deep down that it’s not meant to be and you’re eventually going to get hurt. Despite the heartache and pain, we fall for the same situation over and over again. When will we learn? LOUD HOUND has crafted a poetic representation of this scenario in the hopes that we will unite in our mistakes and maybe next time find someone that we love for who they are.
