Undoubtedly, 2019 was a breakthrough year for GHEIST, marked by a series of festivals and club gigs, alongside a number of releases on stellar imprint. Now, the Berlin-based band are kicking off 2020 with their first collaboration on their own imprint Radau, welcoming New Zealand BAYKER on to their label with release HOWL.
The two-track EP comes two years after their vocal-heavy joint effort Salvation was released. Continuing where they left off, HOWL bears the unmistakable organic GHEIST stamp, with BAYKER adding a darker twist to the band's signature dreamy and melancholic productions. Eponymous track "Howl" is saturated with melodious chords, dripping with enigma that builds progressively with tenebrous touches and subtle stamps. In contrast, "Echoes" takes on more of a deeper tech-house energy laden with sultry vocals, for a track that's refreshingly current and different from GHEIST's usual aesthetic. There's clarity in the delivery of both tracks, and without a doubt, showcases both GHEIST and BAYKER's tenacity in well-crafted productions.
