New York/Philadelphia viral sensation Anna Shoemaker is back at it with a new music video for her single “Funny.” The viral sensation turned alt-pop star leans on her relaxed yet intoxicatingly rhythmic music style to deliver a fun performance that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The fat bassline that pounds away throughout the song provides a strong foundation for the subtle guitar embellishments and delicate snare taps; as the music progresses, Shoemaker’s sticky vocal refrains do their job by hooking the listener to the beat. A SoundCloud mashup of Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” and Chance the Rapper’s “Cocoa Butter Kisses” turned Shoemaker into a viral sensation 5 years ago, and in "Funny" her style is clearly defined.

“Funny” was written alongside Shoemaker’s friend, Chicago surging artist Alexander 23, and as she explains, “This song in a sense is a sort of joke, I was in this relationship where we were fighting and disagreeing so much it started to be funny.” As funny as the track is, it is quite seriously good and is a great way to start the year for the singer-songwriter. Shoemaker’s follow up to her 2018 record East Side is in the works for 2020, for now, she is enjoying her success and continuing to put the work in.
