Eve Owen introduces herself with debut single “She Says” [Video]

London singer-songwriter Eve Owen released her debut single “She Says”, produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner. This new offering was released alongside an official music video directed by her sister, Hannah Owen.

Despite being her debut single, this is not Owen’s first recording. Her voice is featured on key tracks from The National’s latest album, such as “Where Is Her Head” and “I Am Easy To Find”. But easy to find, Owen is not.

So much so, her intriguing voice led to a Reddit thread searching for the one responsible for the clear and haunting vocals featured alongside The National frontman and musical veteran Matt Berninger. But backing vocalist is not a role that would appropriately describe Owen.

As a listener, her voice commands both ears. Her relatability is mesmerizing and carries you far away from who she’s accompanying.

At only 20 years old, Owen is a soft voice for an anxious age. “She Says” opens with a simple piano melody that reflects the chorus and opens the door for Owen’s deliberate lyrics.

Sometimes youth offers more wisdom than age and Owen’s words read like reassurance from a mother to a daughter. “Baby girl she says/Baby girl don’t panic it’ll be alright/Please don’t cry”.

Owen plays with perspective throughout the song and each role she takes on has a purpose. Her loneliness is comforting and her longing is hopeful. It’s a welcome conflict and a beautiful beginning.

“She Says” is available now via 37d03d Records.

Eve Owen tour dates supporting Hayden Thorpe:
11/20 – Hyde Park Book Club – Leeds, UK
11/23 – YES – Manchester, UK
11/25 – Stereo – Glasgow, UK
12/3 – Cecil Sharp House – London, UK
