Reminding us to revisit fate’s own lingering wisdom, Making Movies’ — Enrique Chi, Diego Chi, Andres Chaurand and Juan-Carlos Chaurand — latest single “Accidente” carries “clarity” and a courtship between ourselves and our perspective of the world. If there was ever a positive to a turmoil, it would be the profound retrospection acquired. And as everything passes, good and bad, the same can come from the transparency we just received.
Coming off the heels of their Latin Grammy nomination for their collaboration with Ruben Blades that followed their ameri’kana album, the Afro-Latinx, Panamanian and Mexican rock band’s latest single begins to round out their most powerful years to date.
The track itself explores the beauty of a pause, one which frontman Enrique Chi explains, there being a “profound clarity in the darkest moments of our lives” and relating it to the feeling of just surviving a car wreck. “All of a sudden big life decisions don’t seem so confusing and priorities are instantly re-aligned,” Enrique Chi adds via a press release statement – a feat which is successfully portrayed in various lines from verse to verse.
There’s moments where a listener will relate to the need to isolate their newly given peace (“solo existe el momento” / “only the moment exists”) to only be countered by a realistic weight (“¿Cuántos lamentos tendré que vivir para entender?” / “How many regrets do I have to live to understand?”). Humanizing our mistakes, “Accidente” breathes over a meditative percussion and becomes a guided slow burner. Enrique Chi’s sedative vocals offer hope regardless of the distorted break that finds its way beneath calming waters. Paring the track with a minimalistic lyric video that is focused to each word, “Accidente” and its examination makes a listener believe all over again.
Making Movies will join Rubén Blades in Mexico City at the Auditorio Nacional November 20 and tickets may be found here.
