The Pressure Kids is a bath-rock, yes not “math-rock,” but bath-rock quintet hailing from Nashville. Earlier this year, the joyful collective released their self-titled debut EP—a six-song collection of tunes occupied by tried-and-true coming-of-age themes grounded in folk-pop and indie rock sensibilities. It was a record following college graduation and inspired by the sting of post-adolescence blues commonly associated with that experience. They now share “Inspiration Blues,” a pure indie-rock goodness tune with the wholesome sound of yesteryear. It’s the kind of track that reminds us we don’t need another bop, banger, or bogus flavor of the week song to get us through whatever we need to get through.
“Inspiration Blues” has this lyrical hook in the song; “‘cause I got away with it.” It sticks with you and it’s a statement resonating with much truth and consequence while wrestling with your uncertainties. The line also raises the question, “what did I even get away with?” Beyond this sort of pondering is a deeply satisfying tender indie-rock offering. "This is our big, long rock song about the snares of inspiration, about getting away with it when maybe we shouldn’t have," shares frontman Nick Johnston. "We desire things that might inspire us, most of the time inured to the consequences. We wanted 'Inspiration Blues' to tell a lot of these stories at once."
“Inspiration Blues” moves with grace while shifting through warm melodies, captivating guitars, and fortifying vocals. The Pressure Kids are still early on in their career, but their music speaks veracity on the matters of life’s transitions and the concept behind ‘am I giving enough on becoming the person I want to be.’
