When trying to imagine the type of music that might be found on Lane 8's record label, Belgian producer Jerro (Jeroen Decosemaker) seems like the perfect fit. After releasing his debut EP earlier this year via This Never Happened Records, Jerro found a groove that could not be satiated by an elongated wait. And so, today he releases his follow-up EP, Pantheon.
Ever so bright and promising as the first, Pantheon seems to focus on one theme throughout its four tracks: Exploration. "For this EP, I wanted to create a genuine and powerful follow-up to my last EP—but also explore new sounds and continue to evolve my productions," he shares. Where The Fool felt like one continuous wave of melodic sound, Pantheon begins as a calm drip before quickly evolving into a fast-running current.
While opening tracks "Pantheon" and "HYE" stay true to Jerro's signature sound with serene melodies marked by clean percussions and soothing piano chords, "Lido" and "Coil" prove that chill doesn't always stay standing. On "Coil", he picks up the tempo, layering in punctual kicks and magnetizing synths that can still only be described as melodic. Except that the melody is now felt in your body as it moves to the rapid beats, rather than in your heart as it soaks in all the feels.
Earnestly and carefully put together, Pantheon feels more than just a follow-up EP. It's the beginning of something bigger, and we're just happy to be along for the ride.
