There is no doubt the Puerto Rico-born, Dyckman-raised Slayter is a talent to watch out of New York. His hard cadence meshed with his unique and thrilling delivery make Slayter stand out in a soundscape that, more often than not, sounds rather similar. It appears Slayter has very early on figured out how to stand out from the crowd.

Signed to Cinematic Music Group, Slayter reveals his 10-track debut EP Cold at Night. With features from G Herbo and Lil Gotit, it’s evident that Slayter’s sound doesn’t just fit into one box, but is able to acclimate to different sounds and musical pockets.

Slayter is the epitome of what New York rap is all about – from the grittiness to the honesty and the immaculate lyrical ability. One journeys with Slayter through this project as he raps about love, life, the highs, and the lows. A freshly distinct outlook on the Empire State is curated for the audience as Slayter paints a picture of a distinctively gripping New York lifestyle.

Cold at Night starts off with a captivatingly powerful "INTRO." Slayter lets us in right away. He doesn’t hold back from the hardships that he’s been through and the betrayal that he’s experienced. As he raps over the moody piano production, he has you hooked with the lyricism as he raps “And imma let the instrumental cry / smoking on exotic looking at the sky.” He lets the production breathe. Slayter doesn’t overwhelm with the lyricism; he’s meticulous with the content as he poetically delivers his truth, no gimmicks – “I’m only 25 with a lot on my plate / I ain’t have a dollar but you know I had faith”.

There’s a cohesiveness to Slayter’s project. His intro sets the tone to the tracks that follow. The third track “New Money” is a standout, as Slayter masters a cleverly skillful flow where he bounces from one masterful wordplay to the next. It’s one of those tracks you want to hear over and over to catch a line that you might have missed the first time around. Through the music, he is introducing his audience to the many layers that make up Slayter – the content is multidimensional, as is he. “Chemist” is the sixth track on the project, with explicitly risqué lyricism over a commanding production. Slayter slaughters the beat with the mischievous wordplay and unwavering confidence.

Balancing sinister darkness, authenticity, and masterful rapping ability, Slayter is bound to be a force to be reckoned with.
