For me, there's nothing more beautiful or pleasant than an unapologetic house track that teeters between heady bass and oscillating synths with composed execution. Beauty comes today in the form of UK DJ and producer Franky Wah's newest double A-side "Free / Love Me", released via Ministry of Sound. A faithful representation of the aforementioned, "Free / Love Me" demonstrates boundless heaps of energy juxtaposed with unhurried groove, exuding a playful confidence shown only by the best in class of dance.
"Free" is a sonorous anthem that opens the double single with commanding composites – a melodic, high-energy affair that demands attention. Brimming with conviction in every possible way, Wah deploys a driving bass line to first throw in the hook, guiding the line with fast yet heady claps, before sinking us into a euphoric dream with emotion-drenched vocals. Exalting all the right vibes in all its vibrancy, "Love Me" follows with an equal amount of assertiveness, albeit with a more progressive narrative. With its life-affirming breakdown and infectious vocal sample, the track heavily utilizes piano chords for an insatiable classic twist, with emphasis on his versatility and earnestness shining through in his smooth transitions and funk-fused tones.
"Free / Love Me" is Wah's second release on Ministry Of Sound following his recent single "Words", which has received huge support from the likes of Mistajam, Pete Tong, Annie Mac and the rest of the R1 dance family. His first release of the year "Get Me High" also received great support, climbing to #2 on the Beatport chart and #3 on the BBC R1 dance chart. With further releases planned throughout 2019, Wah is currently in the midst of a memorable summer, after appearances at Glastonbury and Hideout, and a set at Creamfields still to come.
