Rising West London singer, songwriter and musician Azu Yeché caught our ears with his new single "Black Market", a defiant yet summery love-laden track that showcases Yeché's soulful pop and folk sensibilities.
The heartwarming song produced by Peter Lyons (Jodie Abacus, Peter & Kerry, LA Salami) starts with an alluring guitar riff which grows into a resounding piece in the chorus section. Yeché goes forth to tell a story of forbidden love which blossoms in secret between two individuals from different backgrounds. The story probably stems from Yeché's experiences as he explains that “Coming from a religious and traditional background, anything outside the norm was frowned upon. Interracial relationships, inter-tribal relationships, and having a different set of values, were all problematic". For the most part, the backdrop stays minimalistic allowing Yeché's commanding vocals and vivid storytelling to really shine through.
"Black Market" is taken from Azu's forthcoming EP, which is due later this year, and it comes on the back of two successful singles "Farmhouse" and "Sunrise". Azu has just come off a sold-out mini-tour across the UK, and he will be heading off to Europe next month for a string of summer gigs, with particular stops in Paris and Copenhagen, and after the summer, will be gearing up to release his new EP on his own record label Farmhouse Records.
