Après has joined fellow UK duo Icarus's label Fly Boy Records on a double release, eponymous with its two tracks. After spending years making a name for himself across the club scene in his hometown of London and across Europe, the artist known to Hugo Ellingham to his friends has spent his recent efforts in the studio to cement his own brand of sound.
While Ellingham has embraced a classically styled UK house in the past, complete with piano progressions, he's always had something deeper lingering underneath the surface. This is what shines through on his latest release, as he has embraced melody in a multidimensional way that is best associated with progressive music's intersection with house. "Wait" is the embodiment of such a shift, with delicately placed ups and downs. "Are You Ready" goes further into the emotion brought out by the EP's first track, bringing in vocals to match the ethereality created in his immersive music.
