Famed for his high energy, versatile and flamboyant sets, Dutch DJ and producer William Djoko has become a selector synonymous with diverse track choices and an ability to set any dance floor on fire. Previously a resident at Amsterdam's iconic Trouw and now hosting a monthly residency in the Dutch city at Shelter, the DJ regularly plays alongside electronic royalty in the form of peers such as Mr G, Black Coffee, KiNK, Bambounou and The Martinez Brothers. Following on from releases on labels like the aforementioned Martinez Bro's Tuskagee and Ed Banger, William now presents DJOKO – a newly concepted platform designed to showcase his flair for intelligent and unique house music.
First up on DJOKO is William's own 'Whiplash' EP. A four-track foray into William's inimitable style, Whiplash is a fluid and all-consuming journey from start to finish. Opening track "Whiplash (Groovemix)" sets the tone for the EP, with a motoric and hypnotic dance-floor groove and littered with vocals recorded by William himself. "Panic is a Pheeling" follows with a completely different sound, utilizing synths and eerie whispers for something on the experimental end of the spectrum whilst maintaining a heady vibe throughout. "Bernice", premiered exclusively above and featured on Melé's recent Radio 1 essential mix, is a house-funk-disco mash-up with a hefty helping of drums and glittering vocals – capturing the essence of smokey, peak time dancefloors. The EP ends with "Strangest Thing", a suitably funky yet contrasting outro that wraps up a stand out first EP for DJOKO.
William Djoko's Whiplash EP is out 22nd February 2019 via DJOKO and available to stream via all good platforms.
