Premiering on EARMILK today as the lead track on the Dirtybird Campout West Compilation is Steve Darko's "Switch It Up." From the start this one is pure Dirtybird with techy bass elements providing punch and creative synth and vocal work progressing the track along.
Darko began composing "Switch It Up" while on vacation in Hawaii, inspired by the late night tropical vibes. Versus his usual habit of starting with the beat/grove, Darko started out "by writing a weird plucky synth melody," which pu him "in a different creative mindset that helped shape the tune into something different than what" he would normally write – a fact that certainly influenced the track title. Check it out, and see if you picture "a 1985 David Bowie roller blading down a boardwalk" too!
"Switch It Up" is track #1 on the Dirtybird Campout West Compliation, out everywhere today, featuring Fisher, Sacha Robotti & Kevin Knapp, and more!
