The ballad of the moment goes to up and comer CYN, for creating the truly beautiful and bittersweet single “I’ll Still Have Me”. The Michigan-born pop artist released the track today just weeks ahead of embarking on tour with British trio Years & Years. The new single drops with an accompanying video premiere, featuring sweetheart seniors reminiscing about their past and current loves.
CYN, after following her arrow to Hollywood, caught the eye (and ear) of pop megastar Katy Perry. She signed to Perry’s label Unsub Records, and released the upbeat pop track "Together". On this newest track, however, CYN's soft, clear voice rings high and strong in a powerful ballad, displaying how she can slay both sides of pop. "I'll Still Have Me" considers the positives after two people must walk away from each other in a relationship. CYN explains that she penned the lyrics using her own relationship as inspiration:
“After realizing a break up was imminent, I wrote this song to convince myself that everything would be fine. Focusing on who I am and where I’m headed made me feel less empty and more like I would make it through this heartbreak – finding sanctuary in myself was my safest bet and sturdiest lean upon.”
The song’s music video begins with partners offering a few words on each other and their love’s origins. I had tears spring to my eyes as CYN sang at a senior’s centre, while long time lovers, or those without, swayed to her sweet and haunting voice. It’s a creative masterpiece; both visually and audibly.
CYN is well on her way to being a continually notable artist in the music community. Recently, she has released “Moment of Truth”, a song that will be part of upcoming The Smallfoot: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Additionally, a friend and supporter of the LGBTQ community, CYN’s track “Believer” is featured on Pride, a compilation album released for this past Pride Month in partnership with the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN).
