NY based duo Essuh & EA (aka Habanero Ritz) first appeared on our radar with their hard-hitting record "Late Coupons" which showcased deft defying lyrical moves and the duo's undeniable chemistry. Their new single "Holy Ghost" continues the trend with a stripped down instrumental laced with pure bars.
Musically it seems Habanero Ritz have found their lane with off-kilter, vocal-sample-driven soundscapes and minimal instruments. The beat here is composed mainly of a high pitched scream, a guitar stab and various Street Fighter II vocal snippets. Lyrically they keep it gully with vivid graphic illustrations and a not so subtle diss to Genius's Rob Markman – these cats are not taking any prisoners and are out for blood. Habanero Ritz are currently filming the Film adaptation of the EP, set to be released late 2018.
"Holy Ghost" is off Essuh and EA's joint album entitled Habanero Ritz.
Fun fact: Jonny “EA” James created the tornado logo for DJ Clue's Desert Storm imprint and is frequently heard over the airwaves of New York City’s own Power 105.1
