Mt. Joy deliver something beautifully odd in latest visuals for "Bigfoot" [Video Premiere]

Fresh on the start of a new headlining tour, and with over 40 shows already locked down, the indie-folk-rock group Mt. Joy are truly a force to be reckoned with. Since the release of their self-titled debut LP earlier this year, the group have won over fans nationwide, with critical praise from publications like Rolling Stone, NPR, and Billboard Magazine. Mt. Joy first caught the eye of EARMILK while performing during SXSW, which is why we're especially excited to premiere the video for their hit single "Bigfoot", hit play below:

This video really breaks the mold of typical indie music videos and showcases Mt Joy's conviction with their art. It's quirky and weird but reminiscent of the early MTV days where videos from the late 80s and early 90s were incredibly kooky but light-hearted.

The release of a video that contains such imaginative characters pairs perfectly with Mt Joy's ability to create likable folk-rock that is never beige in color. Mt. Joy's music has a rustic charm-filled sound that never strays from the confessional songwriting of folk music with the memorable appeal of a well-written melody. While the indie-folk genre has had to deal with exasperated campfire harmonies falling flat over recent years, it's great to see a band like Mt. Joy injecting some catchy earnest sounds back into it.

Without a specific story in mind, I let Mt. Joy’s "Bigfoot" song inspire the visuals, and the visuals eventually built on themselves, in a natural way. I host a weekly open mic at Niagara bar, so my imagination stayed there, and that’s where we filmed. I also had certain performers in mind. Edy Modica and I built the wandering “beast” and the mondo trasho barfly character together. Paul Anderson and I developed an idiot Siamese twins duo, which we got to test out in this video. At the last minute, I pulled the biking/performing phenom Ryan Dee into the mix, made up like a fruit bat.

My relationship with Sam (Sam Cooper, Mt. Joy Lead Guitarist) has always been funny, odd, and unforced. I hope this video reflects some of that!  Steve Girard, Videographer
