Brooklyn soul singer and producer Johnny Burgos reveals the anxieties beneath his polished persona on his intimate new single, "Feelings." On the track, Burgos comes to terms with his depression and learns how to be vulnerable after growing up in the "machismo culture of East New York," he explains. On the earthy and deadening hook, he reflects on the way his depression has externally impacted his life, worrying if he deserves to be alone. The emotions are framed up by an emotive guitar riff and rich strings. In some ways, the release of "Feelings" symbolizes the moment Burgos choices to do better for himself.
The video for "Feelings," directed, shot, and edited by Max Skaff, adds another layer to Burgos' storytelling. We watch as Burgos battles with himself, and that struggle is embodied by the characters in the video as well. A heavy sense of loss permeates the video, as the two leads oscillate between their happiest memories and lowest-lows. The various narrative threads tie up in the final shot, as a train races by and the memories play out behind Burgos one final time.
