The girls of Wyvern Lingo have been busy. After their successful first and second EP's and a tour opening for Hozier, they have spent the past couple years honing their harmonies and finding their groove. "I Love You, Sadie" is the first single off their much anticipated upcoming debut album. According to the band, it's about "loving the feminine qualities of a man, and encouraging him not to worry about fitting into the male stereotype and just to be himself.”
It is a pretty stark departure from the haunting, witchy folk with which the Irish trio originally made their name, but I have a hunch it's working for them. Although the first EP is extremely different from this single, if you've followed Wyvern Lingo for a while, you can tell that they have grown into this sound. "I Love You, Sadie" is genre-bending; with R&B influences, it's indie with an electronic undertone. The melody is infectious and Caoimhe Barry's vocal is confident and nuanced. The harmonies provided by Saoirse Duane and Karen Cowley give the track a catchiness that comes only with the best pop music.
