DeMarzo considers himself "greedy" for music – not a bad thing to claim when you're making it. His greed seems to come from a lifetime of being immersed in music – from Motown and piano school as a child, to jazz improv as a teenager. Growing up, he honed in multiple instrumental skills, and now, he's focusing on rhythm in house music. His latest, "Start the Fire," speaks to the knowledge he's gained over the years, executed through a lens of tech house and techno.
With bongo percussive vibes laying the foundation, "Start the Fire" reenvisions Gwen Stefani's vocals from No Doubt's 2001 track of the same name and creates an almost chant-like vocal sample ready for a group singalong. Funky and enduring, "Start the Fire" is out now via Toolroom Records.
