Mashup Monday – We're back again with some of the freshest mashes to start your week off right. These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop your searching and instead settle down at your computer… turn up your speakers… and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let's GO.
Got a few new artists (for me) for this week's edition of Mashup Mondays. Always great to look back in the Mashup archives and randomly start listening to some previously listed tracks and artist. This week isn't just EDM-driven mashes but rather I feel as though there are a couple solid hip-hop/chill mashups.
Starting the list off is Touch Face, who before Friday I hadn't heard of before. He had taken a small hiatus from music, but his "First Aid in Vegas" and "Peanut Butter Jelly Girl" are some great electro and dubstep mash respectively. "First Aid in Vegas" reminds me of Kaskade's "Move for First Aid" but I feel as though the Vegas vocal by Vandalism works better than vocal sample used by Kaskade. Definitely a banging party track. Other artists that are new for me, that I included, are DJ Vapor and KMT. DJ Vapor has a style that reminds me of Wick-It The Instigator (who released a new album Grindhouse Basterds today – grab here) and this hip hop heavy mash has samples that I had never heard before. Vapor is certainly on my list of artists to keep looking out for, as is KMT. KMT's "Baby Don't Cry Out There" gives Tupac a chill vibe and is great background music for when you're trying to be productive or in a laidback mood.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again – I do take the time to read comments and suggestions that were written in past Mashup lists. This week, I made a concentrated effort on not getting mashups with Lil' Wayne and hell I'm even putting up a hilarious, but great and fresh, take on the Beastie Boys. My man Bruneaux did the crazy and put the Beastie Boys in the Jungle. His track is a perfect example of why I like his style – he takes huge leaps of faith and mashes some of the craziest shit I've heard. Mad respect to him. Speaking of respect, N3AKO and DOSVEC are continuously blowing my mind with the stuff they make. N3AKO, who gave me a sneak peek to his new HAU5TEP EP (grab here), drops his "Feed The Sun" banger that will blow your speakers up. DOSVEC, on the other hand, takes a more subtle approach in his track and gives us M83's "Midnight City" and throws top 40 vocal samples on top that just soothes the soul. Yeah, I can't live without Gaga's voice but for DOSVEC I'll gladly take her and more.
And no Mashup Monday is complete without a track from Kap Slap. Kap dropped this track as a celebratory gift for reaching 20k fans, and with this track it's easy to see why he obtained that fan total. Samples flow well together from Busta Rhymes to Cobra Starship to Coldplay, Kap killed it hands down. So while you get your fix of weekly mashups, I'm off to find some more hidden gems in preparation for next week – electro, dubstep, hip hop, chill, all styles of mashups. Enjoy your holidays and ff you got anything you want to send, hit me up.
