Desert Hearts is a bi-annual music festival, a kickass house & techno record label and the force behind the global dance event known as City Hearts. It's co-founder, DJ and producer, David Leon (known to beloved fans as Porkchop) is a force in the San Diego and LA underground electronic scene. As is tradition, the core Desert Hearts crew each provide a DJ set of their own during the festival and EARMILK is excited to share Porkchop's full set for fans to relive that magic.

The illuminating sound that emanated from the stage during his midnight set is still being talked about between fans. It was a sonic celebration of life and love through playful analog samples and deep bass. Physically experiencing it was like living in a special moment that was frozen in time. That kind of cinematic moment, where the main character suddenly steps outside of their consciousness, while a spotlight shines on all the surrounding beauty. The two-hour set consisted of a crowd filled with colorful costumes, an array of neon lights and lasers, joy-filled smiles and moving bodies dancing humbly below the desert stars.

"There's no better feeling on this planet than stepping into the DJ booth at Desert Hearts Festival during peak time on a Saturday night. The clock struck midnight and the DH crew had just finished wrecking havoc. The dance floor was overflowing with smiles, joy, and unconditional love. I stepped up to the plate and served my people exactly what they ordered.. Sizzling Hot Porky Techno Time!" Porkchop

As a rising DJ, Porkchop masterfully fuses together deep techno beats with a subtle amount of easily accessible samples. It's a difficult balance to maintain but he manages to carefully weave together a seemingly innocent set that can be both playful and deep. A highlight from the set is a Boys Noize mix of Feist's "My Moon My Man" followed by a magical Radiohead edit that truly sends any and all inhibitions into the wind. The mix was whimsical, it was deep, it was techno and it was nostalgic. Whatever else it may be, it was magical and left a lasting impression on all those who witnessed it live.
