With the impending release of Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, the rooster gives us a a taste of what's in store. The track is definitely indicative of what Big Boi has done in the past; a strolling funky beat, tripped out vocals in the chorus and the occasional nod from the original funkateer (how can we ever forget "Synthesizer"). While I most certainly appreciate both MC's solo work, I have to say that Im still more interested in their future projects as a team.
Really, Big Boi could yell obscenities out of a megaphone and make it interesting. Even with that said, I wasn't overly impressed with this track ,more or less because sonically, it was what I expected to hear. Outkast is easily one of the most creative hip-hop duos of all time, and in my humble opinion both Big Boi and Andre bring so much to the table when working together that it brings out the best in both of them. Speakerboxxxx/The Love Below saw two very different, very separate sides of each member coming together to provide an extremely dope album. Albeit as lackluster as Idlewild (which is technically a soundtrack) was overall, in retrospect it was still pushed creatively by blending show tunes with hip-hop and modern R&B.
Regardless, Im still going to pick it up and give it a listen. I could be surprised. Check out footage of Big Boi performing tracks for his up coming album live after the jump.
