If there was a soundtrack in existence to a "perfect day" it would come in the form of Wingtip's music. The Brooklyn-based producer has recently transitioned his craft under the Flaxo moniker to create soulful beats ready to uplift the moods of many. The music is a stark change from Flaxo's former distinctly synthetic sounds, with tracks exposing traces of future bass to progressive house and more. As difficult as a musical transition may be for any artist, Wingtip shows true authenticity in his reasoning for the change, bravely admitting that his former work was no longer fun to produce. With every release under the Wingtip moniker, there is an evident amplitude to the sounds expressing a sort of intrinsic nature.
In Wingtip's latest release, the artist delivers "Better", a feel good tune with a dimensionally organic sound. Wingtip selectively curates a hook from Mary J Blige's self-love anthem "Just Fine", promoting a positive atmosphere in the track. With the shift of pitch in vocals, the track begins to luminously build up to a glittery break down of wavy guitar riffs and bouncy piano slips reminiscent of early 90's R&B. Wingtip also curiously adds a snippet of Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore's comment on the monopolization of rock & roll. The popular quote refers to popular music's youth target and how record labels sell product rather than share art. This peculiar addition evokes pensive thoughts for listeners, expanding the track to a more introspective layer. "Better" is a fresh breath of air needed in electronic music, slowing down the pace of constructing crowd-pleasing bangers or obscure experimentations (which all have it's time and place of course). What Wingtip does that keeps us wanting more is take us back to the basics with his musical bursts of energy. Wingtip's "Better" seeps warmness in it's swaying groovy beats and is merely a reminder of the good things in life in musical form. Listen below.
