When people think of pop it's easy to associate it with bright colors, bubble gum, and sunshine. Pop is merrily a contraction of the world popular music and was derived from driving rock and roll, it doesn't mean that the music *pops*. Pop can be dark, elusive, sexy, and sinister, it isn’t all “Hit Me Baby One More Time” “Drag Me Down” or “All About That Bass.” UK pop artist Annabel Jones embodies this moody side of pop that is gritty, emotional, honest, and snarky. Annabel made her debut last year with her release “Magnetic” and this week she released her first official track with Crooked Paintings/Atlantic Records, “IOU.” It is a sassy, unapologetic admission of fault that is as empowering as it is emotive. “I make you so sad, I know that I do… I treated you bad, neglected your mood. You nearly went mad, so I cut your ass loose.” Jones comes with claws draw and a notepad full of confessions as she steps to the mic. Her voice emotes over the driving bass melody which creates this infectious verse and chorus that you won’t be able to get out of your head. "IOU" is the first release off her forthcoming EP, Libelle.
