Joe Bradley, aka Latmun, first came under the spotlight when YouTube channel turned music label extraordinaire Eton Messy snapped up his deep house thumper "Strong." Since then the Nottingham based producer has gone from strength to strength with releases on labels such as Lost Recordings, Troupe Records and ALiVE. Holding down a residency at one of the UK's top clubs, Stealth, the talented artist has already garnered early support from the likes of Cera Alba, Detlef and Denney. His debut EP on the Steve Lawler imprint, VIVa Limited, is a mouth watering arsenal of dance floor rollers.
Title track of the EP "Def" is without doubt the standout record of the release. Frantic drum rolls and off-beat retro stabs lead up to a monumental drop that plummets you down head over heels to that point in the night where everyone's faces start to look slightly sinister. Techy snarls and growls compliment the aggressive yet groove heavy bass line as the sweeping synths and cut up vocals tease you in and out of the narrative.
Next up you have the effortlessly cool "Sunrise On The Terrace" which is a laid back, shades-on record that suits the mood of the title down to a vest. Rolling balearic percussion combines with a funky bass line to create a palpable poolside party atmosphere while the brooding synths and high octane build ups ensure it's a record built for the masses.
The EP takes a swerve down slightly techier avenues with "Rock The Beat," and the bullish "Once Again" both boasting dense weighty bass lines. The stunning break down of "Once Again" is one of the stand out moments of the EP, with the exquisite chord selection creating a truly rapturous atmosphere.
"Footlose" transports you to sunnier climes, with wavering rays of heat emitting from the records intricate layers. The contrast of the clean bouncy bass line and the jagged swirling synths create a pure party anthem. The EP closes off with the simple yet hypnotic bass line of "You Got It," maybe a self affirming title that quietly yet confidently looks forward to a very bright future.
A refreshing EP from start to finish that combines the darker sounds of tech house with the incandescent spirit of Ibiza. He's managed to develop an extremely mature sound for a producer right at the start of his career. You can purchase the full EP from Beatport here.
