A few days ago, Ryan Hemsworth took to Facebook to tease a new song with the description "string section, my voice and guitar, and more sounds." Now that track has emerged as "Afterglow," a gorgeous piece that finds Hemsworth doing something a little more traditional than usual. You can hear his own sound buried at the heart of the music, but this time it's mixed with an emotional post-rock style resemblant of Do Make Say Think or múm. His vocal contribution here is just a few hushed, wordless expressions, allowing things to remain instrumental for the most part.
Despite the silly, ironic lens that Hemsworth projects his emo tendencies through, "Afterglow" reminds us that he's a genius at making music that effectively touches on the entire range of human emotion. No guesses yet on what will follow as far as a new release, but this track would certainly be an incredible closing track for something.
