20syl, a rapper and DJ also known as Nantes, triples as a composer and MC. In my opinion, he's one of the best (if not the best) producers in hip-hop today. Funny thing is, he has a tight hold over electronic hop music as well. Today him and Fresno rapper Fashawn released a joint that I think all hip-hop fans should enjoy, via On And On Records.
"Copycat" is not only extremely complex in it's production arrangement, but also tells a valid story through Fashawn's lyrics. There's been a ton of interaction from 20syl over the course of 2015's first half, but this one feels like it's been in the making for a while. Besides being extremely catchy as a hip hop song, Syl throws in elements of Flume, adding cat noises and random accents to an already beautiful composition.
This one comes attached to 20syl's recent Motifs II EP, released on May 11. If you want to hear more from the French producer, check out his Soundcloud and my personal favorite: a remix of King Krule's "Easy Easy".
